In the run-up to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee festivities, this week Remember When will be devoted to all things royal.

We’ll be featuring a look back at street parties from the coronation year of 1953, plus those of the Silver and Golden Jubilees of 1977 and 2002.

At the end of the week we’ll also cast an eye over a few of the Queen’s memorable visits to the Portsmouth area.

Today we kick off with this two picture from 1953, which come from Sheila Joseph (nee Gale), of Bath Road, Southsea.

It was taken at the coronation street party in Lancaster Road, Southsea, and Sheila thinks the lad on the right of the table at the front is Les Curtain.

Another of Sheila’s pictures of the party is published in The News today.
