Frederick Adolphus Hendy little dreamed, when he opened his bicycle and outdoor clothing shop in Whitchurch in 1859, that his fledgling business was destined to be the acorn from which the great oak of the Hendy Lennox Group would grow.

In 1910 his son Percy took the bold step of signing an agreement with Henry Ford himself, making the Hendy Group the first official Ford main dealer in Britain. This picture shows the Southsea workshop in 1948.
