Ivy Hancock (née Samways) was thrilled to see the recent picture of her performing with the Portsmouth-based Courtney’s Junior Accordion Band in the early 1950s. She’s the one circled in Sheila Joseph’s original picture (inset).

Ivy says: ‘We all worked really hard but it was all worthwhile. I played duets with Peter Doswell for Courtney’s. I also played with Joe Osborne in the Salvation Army Accordion Band along with my sister and others. That was a long time ago, and the picture has brought back many happy memories.’

That Remember When article prompted Portsmouth music historian Mick Cooper to send me all four of the accordion-centric pictures on this page.

How many of you recognise yourselves or relatives and can put dates and locations to the pictures?
