I was sad to hear of the death of former Fleet Street newspaper editor Derek Jameson. He was editor of The Daily Express and the News of the World among others. But I preferred him when he started on the Breakfast Show on Radio 2 between 1986 and 1991.
His cockney accent and large teeth made him a familiar figure. Many liked him as his radio audience rose to 10 million.
There was nothing namby-pamby about Derek and if he had something to say he usually said it, unlike many of today’s presenters.
