NOSTALGIA: ‘Cruel’ corvette killer of U-boats that became star of four films

This picture was among those found behind the fireplace. It looks as if its of First World War vintage and might have been taken at one of the forts on Portsdown Hill. John Hayes thinks one of the soldiers might be H Norris Jnr. Do you recognise any of the faces?

NOSTALGIA: The Portsmouth house that Henry built

Have your say

Families were evacuated from their Portsmouth homes when a gas leak threatened to blow up a block of 20 flats.

Fire fighting crews from across the city were on stand-by in case of a major explosion from Grosvenor House in Grosvenor Street, Southsea.

Residents were led to safety as British Gas Southern engineers cut off the main gas supply and spent more than six hours tracing the leak.

The gas was discovered seeping from a service pipe to the building.
