Some years before the First World War and everybody is in their Sunday best waiting for ferries on Clarence Pier, Southsea.

Remember when we all dressed in our Sunday best for a day out?

Here we see part of a wartime wedding photograph which unfortunately has been partially destroyed.

t shows Aircraftsman William Saunders’s wedding to Gertrude Sutton in, it is believed, 1944.

To the left is William’s best man and Gertrude’s younger brother Ernest Sutton.

The photograph was taken at the studio of the well-known naval photographer Wright & Logan in Albert Road, Southsea.

It appears that, unlike today when everyone takes photographs, the wedding party went off to the studio before heading to the reception.
