Passengers come and go from two Gosport ferries, but it is the warship in the background which is of most interest in this undated picture.

She is USS Mount McKinley, an anphibious force command ship which won battle honours in three wars.

Launched in 1943, she saw action in the Pacific in 1944 and 1945, took part in the Korean War from 1950-1953 and then served in the Vietnam War, seeing action in 1966 and 1967.

She was finally struck from the naval register in March 1970, but not scrapped until 1977.
