Victory was dry-docked in 1922 after an appeal by the Society for Nautical Research to save her for the nation.

Restoration work to return her to her Trafalgar state began immediately and was officially completed in 1928 when George V visited her to mark the occasion.

She was an instant success with visitors to Navy Days.
