Does anyone remember the many rose bushes planted along the inside wall of Highland Road cemetery in Southsea?

The reason why is that they were planted by a Mr Vernon Cole, formerly of Kassassin Street, Eastney, and the late father of Marilyn Cole who I featured here some weeks ago.

When Vernon retired he had a party in the former Bunny Club in Osborne Road. His pal, Joe Broom, was the caretaker in Highland Road and Joe agreed that Vernon could plant the roses around the cemetery wall.

Most seem to have disappeared, but does anyone know what became of them?
