This is the last of a series of photographs from my new book War-torn Portsmouth – Then, After and Now.
Above we see a view along Chandos Street from Commercial Road towards the Royal Sailors’ Rest, or Aggie’s as it was always known after Agnes Weston who founded the homes for sailors. It was another of the marvellous buildings destroyed on the night of January 10, 1941.
Anyone reading the book who has a story to tell concerning the photographs or thinks I’ve made an error, please let me know so I might correct it in the next print run.
If you have a tale about any of the pictures let me know so I can include it in future books.
You can buy it (£9.99) from: Waterstones, Commercial Road; New 2 U, High Street, Cosham; Portsmouth Cathedral bookshop, and newsagents JG Riley, Locksway Road, Milton.
