Sent in by Bob Reeder, whose father worked for the Evening News in the press room at Stanhope Road, here we see the staff children’s Christmas party in 1960.

The front row certainly look glum don’t they?

Bob thinks it might have been held in the Drill Hall in Stanhope Road. The decorations are not particularly good are they?

The Reeder family worked for the Evening News over many decades with Bob’s grandfather and his father working as printers for the company. His Uncle Phil worked in the computer room.

Bob himself worked in the dispatch office under the foreman, the late Ernie Wiggins, and moved to The News Centre, Hilsea, in 1969.
