Our girls have been so lucky recently because they have been working with the Groundlings Theatre Company.

The Year 7 pupils will be performing some snippets from Annie at the Victorian Festival of Christmas at Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard, which takes place at the end of the month.

Staff have come in and worked with the students.

It’s been good for the girls because it’s not just about the drama.

They have been using their voices and singing as well as acting.

They have only just joined the school so it’s nice to be able to give them this project to do because they have started to grow in confidence.

They are doing things that they weren’t expecting to do in Year 7. Lots of them haven’t performed to an audience before so are nervous about it.

But they have responded in a very mature way.

The girls are excited. They are always asking questions and just can’t wait for it now. A lot of them haven’t done drama outside of school.

It’s helped with friendship building and they are more accepting to each other.

There have even been a couple of girls who have asked me about Groundlings who might want to join for an after school club.

It’s gone well and everyone is looking forward to performing at the dockyard. It’s not long to go now.
