Alison Glover

Blue Reef aquarist Alison Glover is 26 and lives in Southsea. She’s originally from Stirling in Scotland and takes care of animals at the aquarium, which is inviting visitors to help with its stock-take until Sunday, January 15

What would be your ideal weekend destination?

Islay, the southernmost island of the Inner Hebrides, Scotland, for its seals and amazing beaches.

Not counting your loved ones, who would be your dream companion?

Johnny Cash, as he would have lots of amazing stories to tell.

What music would you take with you?

The album Bagrock to the Masses from Scottish bagpipe/rock band The Red Hot Chilli Pipers.

They do lots of covers of modern songs, with a cool bagpipe twist.

What about something to read?

The Beach by Alex Garland because, no matter how often I read it, it never gets boring.

What would be your ultimate way to relax?

A day at the beach, because I like the sea and find spending time on the beach very relaxing, especially some of the Scottish beaches.

A hot, sunny beach in Thailand would be even better!

If money were no object, which shop would you head for?

White Stuff at Gunwharf Quays because it’s got some great clothes.

What’s your all-time favourite film?

The Little Mermaid, because it’s set under the sea.

We’re buying the drinks tonight. What’s your poison?

Vodka and Irn Bru,

It’s a wee taste of home.

What are you doing this weekend?

Phone shopping.

I need a new phone, and I’m looking to upgrade to an HTC Sensation.

What’s a favourite local

destination for a weekend day out?

Marwell Zoo because I enjoy seeing all of the animals.

Families can join the fun counting fish at Blue Reef this fortnight as staff and visitors keep a track on the sealife citizens.

The aquarium stock-take discovers the current population of all its species of sea-creature.

The child who most accurately reports the population of the animals (as measured against the official check by experts at Blue Reef) will win a year’s free membership at the aquarium on Clarence Esplanade.

The Aquarium is open from 10am until 4pm daily and admission costs £9.75 for adults, £7.50 for children aged three to 14, £8.75 for seniors and students and £32.50 or £39.25 for family tickets.
