Friends and family gathered to help Brenda and Brian Maynard celebrate their golden wedding anniversary.
The couple are both deaf and met within Portsmouth’s deaf community.
They tied the knot on December 16, 1961, at Portsmouth Register Office.
They went on to have two children, Ann and John, who both grew up in the deaf world and use sign language too.
Brenda and Brian also have three grandchildren, Jessica, Lucy and Drew-Rose.
Brian was a self-employed carpenter and joiner for 45 years and passed his skills onto his son.
Brenda worked as a sewing machinist for many years.
The couple live in Portchester and are long-standing members of the Portsmouth Deaf Club, in Arundel Street. They see their friends there every week for fun and games and it was also the perfect venue for their anniversary party.
‘They are an amazing couple,’ says daughter, Ann. ‘I am so proud of them.’
