ONE of the first residents to move in at Hinkler Place in Southampton is now celebrating 12 months at the popular Barratt development.

Jane lived in the exact location of the regeneration site, in the Thornhill area of the city, for nearly eight years before moving out in 2002.

‘I’d been living right here for years and then moved out and rented a property just around the corner,’ said Jane.

‘But I saw Hinkler Place start to take shape and couldn’t resist reserving a two bedroom apartment here.’

Jane has an extra special reason to celebrate her first year at Hinkler Place – a 10 week old baby girl.

‘It has been lovely to welcome Isabella to our own home,’ she said.

‘This whole community is really starting to take shape now. And it is wonderful to think that my daughter has friendly surroundings to enjoy as she grows.’

Hinkler Place is part of a £15m regeneration to the Thornhill area of Southampton.

It consists of 106 new homes – all meeting the Code 4 sustainability requirements.

These requirements help both the environment and the home buyer with energy bills.

The regeneration will also include five new retail units and a community centre.

‘We might not have been here if it hadn’t been for the Barratt sales team,’ added Jane.

‘They told us all about a scheme that was available for first time buyers to help us with the initial finances required to buy our new home.’

Barratt offers a number of schemes, making it possible for buyers to own a home for the first time, including shared equity.

‘Now we are all settled in. The running costs are low because everything is new and efficient,’ said Jane. ‘And we are close to all local amenities. Everything we need is within touching distance.

‘I would definitely recommend Hinkler Place to other young families – particularly those looking to step onto the property ladder for the first time.’

Two bedroom apartments at Hinkler place start from just £133,000 – or just £106,400 with a £5320 deposit under the FirstBuy shared equity scheme.

Barratt has worked closely with the council and the residents of Hinkler to provide a regenerated and exciting area to live and work in with fantastic help and financial support from Homes and Community Agency (HCA), Partnership Urban South Hampshire (PUSH) and Thornhill Plus You.
