To any of my three sons, if you still haven’t found the perfect gift for Father’s Day either of the following would make me more than happy.
Wirra Wirra The Widow Hen Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2010, Adelaide (Ocado £7.49, Morrisons Cellar £8.99) takes its name from the rather eccentric owner of the winery, Robert Wigley,
He once took matters into his own hands and dealt with an overly noisy rooster, leaving the vineyards a quieter place.
Whatever the story, this is another tasty Aussie red from the brilliant 2010 vintage.
A blend of Shiraz and Cabernet, this is uncomplicated wine with black fruits, a little spice and a ripe flavoursome finish. Its got a great label and it’s one of those wines that is very difficult not to like. It’s great with roast chicken.
Nederburg ‘The Motorcycle Marvel’ 2010, Western Cape
There are dark fruits, black pepper, spices, including cloves, and some chocolate notes. It’s well balanced with some savoury notes on the finish. This is a wine with real character and would be great served with a slow cooked shoulder of lamb with Mediterranean herbs.
