Every week we profile a Hampshire business person.
Job title and company: Managing director, Di-Spark Limited, Horndean
Job description: An important part of my job is to interpret industry and customer signals to help design and implement the strategic plan to safeguard the long-term future of the organisation.
I aim to lead the business forward, motivate employees and generally develop the business culture.
I am responsible for the organisation's statutory obligations and have overall responsibility for customers, staff and business assets.
How did you get into precision engineering, and why?I think it's in my genes. My father is a brilliant engineer, and as I was growing-up he was always building something or other in the garage at home – boats, motorbikes and cars.
He set up various engineering companies and it seemed a natural progression to enter the business after leaving college in 1982.
What do you enjoy about it, and what do you not like about it? I take great satisfaction from seeing long-term strategic decisions pay-off.
I also get a buzz from seeing a well planned job that transforms a piece of raw material into a complex machined component.
But I do take it personally when things do not go to plan.
