Festival gets underway

This year's Isle of Wight Festival kicks off today with thousands hoping for good weather as they head across The Solent.

The festival at Seaclose Park, Newport opens its gates at noon and early arrivals in the Big Top will enjoy a set headlined by '80s favourites The Human League.

Tomorrow night will see a dance theme on the main stage with The Ting Tings, Pendulum, Basement Jaxx and The Prodigy. Meanwhile, the Big Top will host a Girls' Night Out topped by Noisettes, Alesha Dixon, Ladyhawke and Bananarama.

Saturday sees the main stage go indie, with Stereophonics, Razorlight, Maximo Park and White Lies, while the Big Top has an eclectic mix of pop from acts including Ultravox, Calvin Harris, McFly and Will Young.

The festival will close on Sunday with an old school finale on the Main Stage with Simple Minds, Pixies and Neil Young. The Big Top will be headlined by The Charlatans and lead singer Tim Burgess has hand-picked the acts to join him on stage that day, including Killing Joke, The Horrors and Black Lips.

There are plenty more acts on both stages and at other areas of the site, plus loads to keep you entertained for the whole weekend. So keep those fingers crossed for sunshine and take your wellies just in case.
