If I’m honest, I’m not so sure about the name, which all the range may struggle to deliver.
With the launch of the initial six wines, at least the Co-op is looking to incorporate some interesting styles.
At a recent tasting, the whites showed better than the reds.
The Co-operative Truly Irresistible Gavi Broglia 2011 (£9.99, and on offer at £7.99 from November 20) has notes of fennel seed, nuts and white stone fruit, followed by a silky texture and good length.
This would work well with roast chicken or some fish in a creamy sauce. It’s a pretty good introduction to Gavi.
TOP TIPPLE: The Co-operative Truly Irresistible Godello 2012, Galicia
Albarino is currently very fashionable so here is another white grape from Galicia. This is really fresh, attractive, dry white with pear and peach blossom . It would work really well with some simple grilled fish or a big bowl of mussels. Great value while on offer.
