Waitrose is running its annual World Showcase of Wine until September 28, featuring some interesting wines from some regions that perhaps don’t usually spring to mind, as well as some parcels on special offer from more recognisable areas.

Brazil, China and Morocco all feature, some better than others perhaps!

So with the current interest in English sparkling wine, here are another couple of alternate fizzes.

Brazil would seem too close to the equator to make wine, especially sparkling wine, but in the southern part of the country sparkling has been made since the 1870s on the back of Italian immigrants.

Miolo Cuvée Tradition Brut Rosé NV, Serra Gaúcha, (£8.99 on offer from £11.99) is made from pinot noir and chardonnay.

A vibrant pink colour with cherry and red fruits, big bubbles and a creamy finish make it great fun for a summer evening.

South Africa is not a country with a sparkling wine reputation but Graham Beck has done as much as anyone to put that right. This is made from chardonnay and pinot noir and is very grown up with yeasty and citrus notes, nice balance and a long persistent finish – excellent. Waitrose £9.99 on offer from £13.99
