Halloween seems to be getting bigger and bigger each year. Well, it’s something to celebrate between the end of summer and Christmas I suppose.
If you’re out there trick or treating with the children, here are some wines to come back home to.
What better -named wine than Casillero del Diablo, literally meaning the Devil’s Cellar. Casillero del Diablo Viognier 2012, Chile (Sainsbury’s £7.99) has apricot and orange blossom with a rich palate. It is a real autumn-style white wine, and would go with some sticky ribs. Casillero Del Diablo Carmenere 2012, Rapel Valley (Asda, Ocado, Sainsbury’s £7.99) is my current favourite in the range with smoky, spicy berry fruit and notes of mocha. This would be great with a plate of bangers and mash.
Aldi ‘Exquisite Collection’ Malbec 2012, Uco Valley
I can’t honestly say that all the Aldi Exquisite range works, but this is a real treat and quite a trick from Aldi to pull this out for £5.99. It’s full of ripe, plummy fruit with a hint of spice and an easy velvety texture. For me, it’s the best red in the range. Great value and perfect with roast beef.
