While we patiently wait for summer, maybe a taste of one of the following three whites from Down Under can bring the sun.

Riesling can make such a great summer food partner, Vidal Riesling 2010, Marlborough (slurp.co.uk, £9.05) has a bouquet of zesty lime and floral notes followed by an intense citrus palate and a dry finish. Try this with some barbecued shellfish marinated in lemon. Australian Sauvignon Blanc lives in the shadow of its better-known New Zealand cousin, but in a different style you can find some lovely examples. Fox Gordon Sauvignon Blanc 2011, Adelaide Hills (Waitrose £11.99 on offer £9.49 until July 24) is refreshing, crisp, elegant Sauvignon with cut grass and minerals. It makes a lovely aperitif.
