Have your say

We are right in the middle of the awards’ season and have you ever wondered what the stars drink as they wait to see if they’ve picked up a gong?

This is BAFTA week and I can tell you that the guests and nominees will be drinking wine from New Zealand and toasting each other with Tattinger Champagne to celebrate.

Villa Maria Merlot Cabernet 2012, Hawkes bay (Morrisons £8.98, Majestic £10.99 if you buy 2) is all about berry fruit with a little cedar spice and ripe tannins, very difficult not to like and would be perfect with roast lamb.

Tattinger Brut Reserve NV (widely available from £36.99 but often on special offer) is from one of the last great Champagne houses still family-owned. This is a Champagne I constantly return to. It’s very elegant with great balance, not just for award winners.

This week’s Top Tipple is Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc 2014, Marlborough.

If you are fan of Marlborough sauvignon blanc this is great value and the current vintage is another good one. Very fresh with ripe tropical and citrus fruits, but balanced with that tell-tale zesty acidity which keeps all the fruit in balance. Perfect to sip and watch movies with.

Widely available from £10.99 but often on special offer – Majestic £7.32 when you mix and match two.
