The Australian wine industry may be struggling a little at the moment – it just produces too much wine, plus there is more choice from many other countries now than when the current crop of Aussie wines first hit our shores in the 1980s.
But it still has some of the most talented winemakers on the planet.
McWilliams Mount Pleasant Isabelle Chardonnay 2010, Tumbarumba (Waitrose £9.99 but on offer £7.49 until July 19) is a wonderful example of new, cooler climate-style Aussie Chardonnay. It is really fresh with citrus and green apple and an elegant, textured finish – all very grown-up and great value to go with a roast chicken.
Brown Brothers Cienna Rosso NV, Australia
