What’s good for the planet and costs you nothing?

What saves water, uses up those piles of old newspapers and gets you lots of points in the Portsmouth in Bloom competition?

Yes, it’s mulching!

Did you know you can feed your garden for a long time with a little mulch.

Mulching makes your garden preserve moisture, controls weeds and provides rich supplements to get healthier crops.

Don’t throw away old food scraps, newspapers, ripped jeans or old cardboard boxes – they can all be used in the mulching process.

And it’s the best form of recycling there is.

And there are £50 prizes to be had from sponsor Portsmouth Water for Portsmouth In Bloom entrants who have found amazing ways of saving and re-using water.

We still need helpers for watering on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer or at any other time you can help, and we will swop a Love Southsea bag for your old watering cans or water butts.

Keep up to date with everything happening here by going to southseagreenhouse.co.uk.
