Love-in-a-mist, or nigella, makes a stunning display when sown directly in the border.

BRIAN KIDD: It’s time to plough the border and scatter the good seed on the ground

Have your say

The community garden has been a busy place lately with families and children sharing the jobs and watering each others seedlings. There are plenty of new veggies sprouting on the plots.

There are some new scarecrows from our friends Catch 22 Portsmouth, who have also been painting the benches while we have been re-discovering the pond - which is teeming with wildlife.

We have a poorly fox lodging in our straw bed at the bottom of the garden, so the coffee sack construction has stalled while it gets better.

If there’s a clever water wizard out there, we need a little help with our water butts which are not filling properly from our sloping roof and the garden needs plenty water over summer.

If you can help with anything, call us on 07484 197 065 or pop in when the gate is open.
