I have had such an amazing day

A lack of self-confidence had left Stephanie Stuart feeling down in the dumps.

After giving birth to her son Alfie 15 months ago, Stephanie had found it hard to shift her pregnancy weight and her self-esteem had dropped dramatically.

The 21-year-old says she stopped going out, felt confined to the house and found herself three stone heavier than she had been before getting pregnant.

Stephanie, from Cosham, was in desperate need of a boost but not knowing what to do with her hair or how to apply the right make-up had left her confidence dented.

Her sister Lynsey thought she really deserved a treat and nominated her for a LifeStyle makeover.

We were happy to help and arranged for Stephanie to visit the friendly team at Hairmatters to see if they could put the sparkle back in her life.

Hair

Stephanie met up with Hairmatters stylist Kat Jeram and the pair talked about what colours and styles would suit her best.

Kat decided to completely transform Stephanie's hair and the first step was to change the colour.

Using a dark base with red and blonde highlights, Kat revamped Stephanie's hair colour from mousey brown to vibrant and bold.

Stephanie's hair was in need of a good cut so Kat took some of the length away and added in lots of shorter layers to create body and texture.

A fringe was added to frame her face and Kat straightened the hair for a sophisticated sleek finish.

To style, Kat used Matrix products including Amplify Foam mousse, Sleek Serum and a heat protector.

Make-up

Professional make-up artist Elisabeth McLoone stopped by the salon to show Stephanie how to achieve a simple, easy-to-copy look.

As Stephanie's new hair colour was full of warm tones, Elisabeth decided to use that as inspiration for the make-up.

She began by using a golden eyeshadow across the lids followed by a warm brown on the outer corners and blended it. A brown eyeshadow was applied along the lash line which created a softer look than eyeliner.

Elisabeth created an even skin tone with foundation and used a browny pink blusher on the cheeks. Illuminator was also used on the cheekbones to show off Stephanie's great face shape. To complete the look Elisabeth used a warm pink lipstick with gloss on top.

Verdict

Stephanie from Cosham, Portsmouth, says: 'I feel amazing. I was at a really low point when my sister nominated me. I never thought I could look like this. I'd really lost my self-confidence so it was very emotional to think that someone would do something so special for me.

'I love my hair colour, Kat has done such an amazing job, and I love my make-up. Everyone's made me feel really special.

'I've had an amazing day.'
