I feel so much younger now

Hitting 60 is a big landmark in most people's lives and that was certainly the case for Barbie Corstorphin who celebrated her milestone birthday in September.

Turning 60 didn't worry Barbie, from North End, Portsmouth, but it did make her long to look and feel younger.

She wanted to find a new look to go with her new age which made Barbie the ideal candidate for a makeover.

The mum-of-three also sings bass with the Spinnaker Ladies Chorus and was desperate to update her look in time for a big concert she'll be performing on November 14 at the New Theatre Royal.

With an open mind and a taste for a change she visited top new salon Moods. There she met up with the salon's friendly team of stylists and therapists who were on hand to guide her towards finding a youthful new look.

Hair

Senior stylist Becky Lindsay welcomed Barbie to Moods, which opened three weeks ago in Havant's East Street.

After chatting to Barbie about what styles and colours would suit her best the pair decided a dramatic change was in order.

Barbie's hair was quite long when she arrived at the salon and its existing brown colour had started to fade.

Although Barbie already had a fringe she admitted to Becky that she'd cut it herself with blunt scissors so it was uneven.

Becky was given free reign to suggest what would suit Barbie best and decided to go for the chop.

After cutting away around five inches from the length, Becky styled Barbie's hair into a sleek bob and added soft layers all the way through. A razor was used to create texture.

Barbie needed a dynamic colour change to go with her fabulous new cut so Becky applied a warm medium brown all over before adding red copper low-lights.

After sorting out Barbie's fringe Becky used Tigi products, including Lusterizer to smooth the hair and Manipulator to separate the layers.

Make-up

The salon's beauty therapist Shelly Bertram took charge of giving Barbie a subtle but sophisticated new make-up look.

After taking Barbie into one of the salon's relaxing beauty treatment rooms Shelly decided to concentrate on using warm winter colours.

Using products from the Tigi Bed Head range, Shelly began by giving Barbie an even coverage of beige foundation and added concealer under the eyes.

For the eyes Shelly used a golden eyeshadow followed by a dark brown eyeliner and brown mascara to create a softer look.

Rose blusher added a hint of colour to Barbie's cheeks and Shelly created her own brown/red lipstick by blending shades before applying a clear lipgloss over the top.

Verdict?

Barbie, who has three grandchildren, says: 'I feel 10 years younger. I think my hair looks absolutely brilliant. My hair had got quite long and the colour had faded out a long time ago but now I feel great. I love the colour and I don't normally wear any make-up but Shelly's done it really subtle and it looks lovely. I do feel much younger and it's given me the lift I needed.'
