I have enjoyed myself so much

Everyone deserves a pampering treat from time to time and that was certainly true of Sandra Donn.

She was nominated for one of our makeovers by her loving daughter Louise Donaghy who thought her very special mum was an ideal candidate for a pamper day.

Louise told us how Sandra had been through a tough time recently following the death of both her husband Doug and her mum.

The 63-year-old had to cope with losing two of the most important people in her life within months of each other.

Louise wrote: 'She is truly beautiful, full of life, fun and outgoing and a tower of strength for all of us. We would be totally lost without her love and support.'

Sandra, who has two children and three young grandsons, sounded like the perfect person to enjoy a relaxing treat so we arranged for her to visit a top salon for a special day.

Hair

Salon owner Pauline Howe and her team welcomed Sandra to Strands Hairdressing in Hill Head near Stubbington.

Graduate stylist Kelly Brookes (known to everyone as Brooke) took charge of transforming Sandra's hair colour.

She applied foils of a light warm, golden blonde, along with copper shades and an all- over base colour of apricot.

Redken's Colour Chemistry System was used to put protein and moisture back in the hair and Redken's Colour Extend shampoo and conditioner were used to protect the colour and add shine.

Once the colour was finished, Pauline stepped in to sort out the cut. She added lots of texture by point-cutting the hair before blow drying it to give volume.

Pauline used Redken products to style, including Gutz to give body and volume, Rough Paste to emphasise the texture and Vinyl Glam to add shine

.

Make-up

Professional make-up artist Elisabeth McLoone stopped by the salon to show Sandra how to apply a fresh new look. Elisabeth used Mac products and began by applying a shimmery lilac/purple eyeshadow to the inner corners of the eye, before applying brown eyeliner to create a softer look. Mascara was then applied and Elisabeth defined Sandra's eyebrows with a soft, natural brown, eyeshadow.

Foundation was applied to even out Sandra's skin tone and a neutral-coloured blusher added a hint of colour to the cheeks. Highlighter shimmer was also applied to the cheekbones.

As Elisabeth had made the main feature of Sandra's look her eyes, she kept the lips quite neutral. A pinky coloured lipstick, touched up with gloss, gave just the right amount of colour.

Clothes

Sandra went to Monsoon where she picked out this glamorous outfit. She wore a beautiful cerise pink dress, 65, black bolero-style cardigan, 40, and high-heeled shoes, 45.

Verdict

Sandra, from Fareham, says: 'I have very much enjoyed myself, everybody has made me feel very welcome and at ease. It's been lovely.

'When Louise told me she'd nominated me, it was a complete surprise and after I'd got over the shock it was lovely.

'It's a wonderful salon and I love my hair and make-up.'
