It's time to raise your glasses to best bars

The time has come once again for you to vote for your favourite place to spend a night out.

Best Bar None is now in its second year searching for the venues that look after its customers best by ensuring a good but safe night out.

Assessors made up of representatives from various authorities including police, fire and Portsmouth City Council, have been visiting the 50 venues who have entered to see how they work.

The results will be announced in a glitzy red carpet awards night at Portsmouth Guildhall on Wednesday, April 9, with the winners of the much anticipated News readers vote also being announced on the night.

And you now have your chance to vote for your favourite in just one, or all six categories, either by filling out the coupon (below) and sending it in, or texting your choices to us (see panel bottom right).

Co-ordinator Lindsay McCurdy said: 'It was a great night last year and this year venues are already getting excited about it.

'All the venues taking part have been working so hard, and we've seen such an improvement in them compared to last year so it's good to be able to give them a special evening.'

Best Bar None was launched as part of a drive to combat binge-drinking and alcohol-fuelled violence and aims to work with venues to improve their working procedures and staff training to ensure a safe and happy night out.

Last year the winners of The News votes were:

Traditional Pub: Old Vic, with 75 per cent of the vote

Club: Tantrum – 51 per cent

Bar: Bar Bluu – 59 per cent

Restaurant: White Room – 62 per cent

This year there are two extra categories for you to choose a winner from, community pub and leisure club/complexes.

Entering couldn't be simpler and hardly takes any time at all.

The closing date is Friday, April 4, at 5pm. Sponsors of the awards are The News, Disc Directory, RETS, Luminar, Power FM, Portsmouth City Council Square Deal.

To vote for your favourite watering holes simply download, print and fill in the coupon and send it to: Best Bar None Awards, Sue Wade, The News Centre, Hilsea, Portsmouth, PO2 9SY. Closing date is 5pm on Friday, April 4.

You can also enter by text. Simply send a text message starting with tncomp bbn, the answer to the question plus your name, house number (or house name) and postcode to 81800.

Example of message: tncomp bbn 01 john smith 1 po2 9sx
