Italian night to help Lido crusade
The Hilsea Lido Pool for the People group has organised a fund-raising evening at an Italian restaurant in an effort to keep the outdoor pool open.
The group wants the community to take over the running of the pool from the city council and aims to raise enough money to put the plans into action.
Member Robin Kay says they want to put together a business plan for the Lido.
He explains: ‘We would like to see the Lido transferred as an asset to the community for us to run, but the council need to be convinced that we are capable.
‘We believe it can be run affordably and better.’
The dinner has been arranged at The Pizza House in London Road, Hilsea, on Monday.
An extensive menu has been created for the occasion by the management, who are supporting the group.
They have already had a local builder pledge his support by working for free on the maintenance of the Lido
Robin adds: ‘It is about showing that we can do it and at the minute we are putting a business plan together.
‘All the money raised from the evening will go back into being able to operate as a group.
‘If we can keep on going we will be going out there and getting grants and doing the fund-raising ourselves.’
The five-course meal begins at 7.30pm and will be 19.95 per person, including aperitif, choice of starter, main course, dessert and coffee.
