Luxury yacht buyer sails into marina
A luxury yacht importer has dropped anchor in Port Solent. In a sign that the area's marine industry is not quite in the doldrums, Dennis Boon's Lamberti Motor Yachts has occupied Unit 13 of The Slipway, Port Solent, after moving his business down from London to the Solent.
The terraced office by the renowned marina will be home to the boat broker's operations, which include importing the 1.5m Lamberti 80 motor yacht – and Europe's first-ever model, Emily Rose, is due to arrive at Port Solent in late March from China, and is said to have drawn a range of enquires.
Mr Boon said: 'The south coast is where it is at when it comes to the corporate entertaining market, and Port Solent is strategically situated between Portsmouth and Southampton. Locating here from Sunbury-upon-Thames was a no-brainer.
'Also, if you're going to have a run-out with potential buyers, you might as well open the throttle with a cruise to the Isle of Wight, or take in the sights at Portsmouth Harbour and along the Solent.'
Mr Boon caught the industry's eye several years ago, when his glass-bottom rowing boats appeared at Southampton Boat Show, and went on to create a number of nautical novelties with his firm, the Weird Boat Company.
The deal for his new office was struck by Hughes Ellard, on behalf of the Premier Marinas group.
Three similar-sized units at The Slipway are now being marketed at 16.50 per sq ft on flexible lease terms, equivalent to 12,375 a year.
