Manager brought in to give breath of new life

One Portsmouth boss has climbed the greasy pole to success, taking over management of a business centre in the heart of the city.

The Technopole in Kingston Crescent has welcomed Stephen Brownlie as manager, in the hope the 31-year-old from Drayton will breathe new life into the business centre, with his eyes set on attracting business from the defence and university sectors.

The appointment follows a contract last month for Fasset to take over management of the 20,000sq ft venue.

Mr Brownlie said: 'We envisage the Technopole playing an even greater role in generating local jobs and economic vitality by attracting embryonic firms at the cutting edge of their fields.

'For example, the university is a major knowledge-based organisation where companies spinning out of research and development will be looking at the Technopole as a good entry point into the private sector.

'Another strength locally is the defence sector, which contributes nearly 700m to the local economy. The Technopole provides an excellent base for new defence spin-out companies.'

Current tenants include software development specialist AMT Data Technologies, toy helicopter-maker Bladez Toyz, and marine technology firm Lxsea.

The building is owned by PTL, which selected Fasset because of the company's proven track record in driving up occupancy rates at similar sites in the south.

Fasset transformed the fortunes of Langstone Technology Park near Portsmouth bringing occupancy up to nearly 100 per cent.

Chris Allington, joint managing director, Fasset, said: 'Stephen has an impressive track record in the office space sector and will play an influential role in making Portsmouth Technopole the first port-of-call for emerging hi-tech firms.'

The Technopole was the result of a collaboration between PTL and Portsmouth City Council and was opened in April 2002.

Stephen was previously the business development and venue manager for Quindell, a conference services specialist, establishing Quob Park, near Fareham, as a serviced office and conference facility.
