New look gives Berni a real lift
Berni Wilcox turned 50 this year so her friends thought she deserved a bit of pampering and nominated her for a makeover.
A promoter for various companies, Berni usually ends up working six or seven days a week, so relaxation time is a rare treat for her.
She says: 'I haven't had a holiday for four years and, like everyone else, I'm having to work harder because these are difficult times. So this is a really lovely thing to happen.'
Berni, who lives in Cosham with her 21-year-old daughter Amber, says she wears a bit of make-up and only does simple styling with her hair. So she needed a new look to give herself a lift and make an impression at work.
But Berni, who is separated from her husband but has remained good friends with him, is happy to be 50. 'I'm fine with the way I look and feel great. I don't feel 50 at all,' she says.
Hair
Berni was left in the safe hands of Sarah Best, a leading stylist at United Salons Southsea (formerly Ego).
She wanted to stay blonde so Sarah added golden tones and a darker blonde.
She then took quite a bit off the length to neaten it up and make it look healthier and thicker. She also chopped in lots of layers, moved the centre parting to the side and shaped the style in around Berni's face.
She styled throughout with GHD curls using a heat protector on the hair. Sarah also used a leave-in thickening lotion, blow-dry heat protector and finished the look with volumising hairspray.
Make-up
Sarah also applied Berni's make-up, creating a natural look that Berni would be comfortable with. After cleansing, toning and moisturising Berni's face, Sarah applied foundation and concealer and added pink blusher across the cheekbones.
For the eyes she used green liner on the upper and lower lids and false eyelash tips on the ends of the lashes. She completed the whole look with a subtle pink lipgloss.
Verdict
Berni says: 'It's been such a lovely day and Sarah's been wonderful. It's been a real treat and I'm so pleased with what she has done.'
