Kate and John Priestley only decided to get married in September and with little time and money for the wedding, opted for a vintage 1940s theme.

The pair married at the Square Tower, Old Portsmouth, with a couple of close friends and family present before going on to their reception at the Still & West Pub.

While most people provide a full dinner for their guests, the couple provided good old fashioned British fish and chips. And music was provided by The Three Belles.

Kate, 29, says: ‘Well, it’s February and we thought everyone would be cold. Plus everyone likes fish and chips don’t they.’

Kate, a solicitor, wore a Justin Alexander dress that had been beautifully modified by Creatiques in Southsea to give it that retro feel.

Talking about the day, she says: ‘I just absolutely love that era, and I just think the way women styled themselves was just so beautiful.

‘John is into retro stuff too and what’s great is everybody that went really made an effort. Some people properly dressed up for it.’

The couple live in Cosham and have been together for the past nine and a half years, after they met in a bar in Port Solent.

Kate adds: ‘It was a great day, and the dress I wore was the dress of my dreams.’

Although the pair didn’t go away on a honeymoon, they went on day trips together, including a day out to Brighton and a trip to Careys Manor in Brockenhurst.
