FAREHAM is launching its own countdown to the London 2012 Olympics with a free weekend event.

Tour of the Town takes place on Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24 – 365 days before the games begin.

Organised by Fareham Borough Council with Fareham Leisure Centre, Ferneham Hall, Westbury Manor Museum, and Fareham and Crofton Cricket Club, it offers an opportunity for the public to see what the town has to offer.

Each location will be offering free sport-related activities. At each site the public can get a stamp to prove they’ve visited – once all four stamps are collected they can enter a prize draw with prizes including Pompey tickets, and Ferneham Hall panto tickets.

Councillor Connie Hockley, who is in charge of leisure and community matters, said: ‘Our Tour of the Town weekend is an excellent opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to join together in celebrating the start of the Olympic countdown, whilst getting some fresh air and having some fun.’
