Philippa Atkinson

Every week we profile a Hampshire business person.

Job title and company: Head of commercial sales, Portsmouth Football Club

Job description: I am responsible for all matchday hospitality sales, and work within a team responsible for commercial sales.

I talk with local and national companies offering them advertising and sponsorship solutions and partnership deals that can hopefully meet their business objectives and needs.

However big or small a company is, PFC are able to tailor-make competitive and effective solutions.

Length of time in sales: I graduated in 1996 and began my career in high street recruitment.

After being headhunted to join a radio station as a sales executive, I joined Portsmouth's 107.4 The Quay in 2001 and worked my way up to sales manager, and then in 2006 took the helm of station manager responsible for revenue and listeners.

This led me to Portsmouth Football Club, as the two have a close working relationship, and I joined the club six months ago and haven't looked back!

What do you enjoy about it and not like about it?

In sales you have to be constantly proactive and enthusiastic, and I enjoy the diversity my role entails.

One minute I can be working on a new sponsorship campaign, the next organising a wedding, the next showing clients around our great facilities and the next organising our own ad campaigns to raise awareness of all of our facilities!

The thing I am personally looking forward to the most at the moment is the first match of the new 2008/09 season, and welcoming all the new faces we have in our corporate lounges!
