Postie's stamp of approval
Alison Evemy was sick of looking like a plain Jane so she jumped at the chance to have a makeover.
The busy Post Office worker was used to getting up at 4am each day to go to work and when she'd finished for the day there were daughters Charlotte, eight, and Emily, four, to look after.
Alison, 33, hadn't been to a hair salon in years because she'd always put her kids' needs above her own. But that meant that she'd become stuck in a rut.
When her mum Sheila nominated her for a LifeStyle makeover it was the push that Alison needed.
Sheila told us that Alison deserved a treat and that her shoulder-length hair really needed tackling.
Alison from Copnor, Portsmouth, was shocked but decided to go for it thinking it would give her a new lease of life.
Hair
We arranged for Alison to visit Hairmatters in Wayte Street, Cosham, Portsmouth. Alison popped in two days before her makeover to have a skin test and consultation so she could meet the staff and think about what style and colours she wanted.
Stylist Emma McKendry took charge of Alison's transformation. Alison was happy to let Emma pick what she thought would suit her and the pair decided to go for quite a dramatic change.
Emma applied highlights, using two shades of blonde and one tone of brown, to create a natural look. As Alison had never had her hair dyed before, Emma wanted to keep the colour change subtle.
For the cut she could afford to be bolder and lopped inches off Alison's shoulder-length locks to create a chin-length bob instead. Layers were cut in throughout the hair to add texture and movement and a side fringe was added.
Emma used Matrix products to style, including ShapeTrix paste, to hold the style in place and a moisturising shampoo to improve the condition of Alison's hair.
Make-up
Beauty therapist and make-up artist Cherri Wilson completed Alison's new look.
Cherri began by applying an ivory foundation, followed by a translucent powder, to set the base. Rose blusher was added to the cheeks and highlighter was used on Alison's cheekbones to create definition.
Cherri went over Alison's eyebrows with a brown eyeshadow and applied a white base across the eyelid.
A green eyeliner was used around the inner and outer lashes and a bright green apple shimmer was applied. A silver metallic was used on the inner eye and long lash mascara lengthened Alison's already long eyelashes.
Pink lipliner, lipstick and a slick of gloss completed Alison's new look.
Clothes
Alison went to New Look where she picked out this outfit. She wore smart blue jeans, 20, a crinkle-checked blouse, 20, and tan heeled boots, 25. She accessorised with pretty bangles, 6.
Verdict?
Alison says: 'My kids have always come first which has meant it's just not been feasible to spend money on me but I'd come to the stage where I was feeling like a plain Jane. I've just got used to scraping my hair up in a ponytail and that's me for the day but I wanted to look different and be able to let my hair down and still be me. I love my hair. It's a new start for me and a new lease of life.'
