Maureen and Michael Dash will be celebrating their golden wedding anniversary on Saturday by going out for a meal with all their family.
After his National Service, Michael served with the Ministry of Defence in armament depots in Gosport, Dean Hill and Gibraltar. Maureen was a trained nurse.
It was the classic Florence Nightingale tale as they met when Michael had a Lambretta accident in 1960 and Maureen, who was a nurse at Queen Alexandra Hospital, attended to him.
The couple were married on March 17, 1962, at St Mary’s Church in Alverstoke, Gosport.
They went on to have three children, Carolyn, 49, Philip, 46, and Angela, 42.
Maureen stayed in nursing most of her life and took time out when she had the children. She returned to nursing in the early 1970s until they moved to Gibraltar in 1978. She continued nursing over there and when they came back in 1981.
She worked at a care home until she had to retire for health reasons.
Maureen, 74, and Michael, 76, have five grandchildren – Stephen, 24, Mark, 23, Leanne, 21, Matthew, 19, and four-year-old Olivia.
