Richard and Ann Ashworth had a big surprise party with all their family and friends to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary.

Richard, 73, and Ann, 71, grew up in North End and were married on April 21, 1961, at Buckland Congregational Church. They spent their honeymoon in Jersey.

Richard and Ann, who now live in Portchester, went on to have four children, Lynn, 48, David, 44, Mark, 42, and Sue, 40.

They also have five grandchildren Ben, 21, Sophie, 17, Callum, 14, Mia, three, and Issac, nearly one.

To celebrate the day the family threw them a surprise party at the Beefeater restaurant in Paulsgrove.

All the family were there to surprise them and the couple had their own cake and were given flowers to celebrate.

Their daughter, Lynn, says: ‘It was great. Everybody had a good time.’
