Musician and performer Huw Olesker, 16, lives in Somers Town. Next Saturday he will be performing with his band The Barebackers at the free Summer Ska Funkin Picnic at Southsea bandstand. Here he tells us about his perfect weekend.
What would be your ideal weekend destination?
I’d go back to Barcelona. I went when I was little and fell in love with Park Guell. It was an amazing place.
Not counting your loved ones, who would be your dream companion?
Rupert Murdoch’s an interesting chap. I’d take him.
What music would you take with you?
Gogol Bordello. They’re pretty much my favourite band. You can’t beat a heartfelt Gypsy lullaby mixed with a hardened punk rock edge that we in the south love so dearly.
What about something to read?
Gormanghast. The whole series (because I never got round to reading it all).
What would be your ultimate way to relax?
A good skateboard session around town is the ultimate way to relax.
If money were no object, which shop would you head for?
The Apple Store. I’m not one for branding, but if it’s shiny and made by Apple, I want it. I’d stock up on T-shirts from Bored of Southsea, too.
What’s your all-time favourite film?
Is anything better than Blazing Saddles? I think not.
What are you doing this weekend?
On the Saturday I’ll probably be busking somewhere and rehearsing for our show down at Gunwharf Quays on the Sunday afternoon. Apparently, we get free food from Giraffe. Free is good.
What’s a favourite local destination for a weekend day out?
Being 16 I tend to spend a lot of time down on Southsea Common by the skatepark. It has its benefits.
