CHAMPION gardener Margaret Poulter had plenty to smile about as she picked up her prize.
The 69-year-old of Avenue Court, Alverstoke, impressed The News’ gardener Brian Kidd with her colourful back yard to scoop the top prize in our Bloomin’ Marvellous contest.
Now she has collected her prize of £100 of vouchers, to be spent at Garsons garden centre, Titchfield.
Margaret said: ‘I’m still thrilled to bits to have won and can’t believe it really.
‘I have had some lovely comments from people about my garden, which has been really encouraging.’
Brian described Margaret’s garden as a ‘romantic film scene’.
He was impressed with a patio that was enhanced by a translucent roof, a climbing wisteria, a curved walkway, the combination of flowers and shrubs, and above all, the selection of colour provided.
Margaret picked up her vouchers and is now planning what she will be spending them on.
‘I’ve been looking at ornaments,’ added Margaret.
‘I think now is a good time to shuffle things around in my garden.
‘It’s a good time to do it as it’s still warm enough for the roots of plants to settle into their new home before the winter.
‘I want to have a small summerhouse as well, but that won’t be for a while.’
Clare James, garden centre director, said: ‘We love sponsoring the Bloomin’ Marvellous competition.
‘It’s great to see all the entries in the paper and to have met the winner.
‘Margaret’s garden was absolutely lovely.
‘She’s already a Garsons customer and when she came to pick her vouchers up she was taking a look around to see what she could spend them on. I would like to say congratulations to Margaret and a very well done to everyone else who entered.’
If you missed out on entering this year, then you can try again next summer when our annual competition will be relaunched.
