Caring schoolboy Ciaran Plaiter is this week’s We Can Do It T-shirt winner after he raised hundreds of pounds for the British Heart Foundation off his own back.

Ciaran, 16, organised a sweet and cake sale in aid of the charity as part of a fundraising event at South Downs College, in College Road, Waterlooville.

He also set up a raffle and a name the teddy bear competition.

In total, he raised £252.77.

Ciaran has also been a volunteer at the charity’s furniture and electrical store in London Road, North End, for two years.

He says: ‘I don’t have any personal reasons for wanting to help the charity.

‘I just think it’s a fantastic cause and I want to make a difference to other people’s lives.

‘I hope I’ll be able to arrange an event like this again.

Store manager Kim Kett adds: ‘We’re incredibly proud of him.

‘He works really hard for us and the amount of money he’s been able to raise is fantastic.

‘He organised everything himself.

‘He got his mum and another volunteer who works here to bake the cakes and he managed to get the sweets from Hancocks Cash and Carry, in Copnor.

‘It’s a lot for someone to take on, especially a young lad.

‘But he took it all in his stride. You don’t see his spirit in a lot of people.

‘He’ll definitely go places.’
