Caring pensioner Jan Harding is this week’s worthy We Can Do It T-shirt winner because she is donating all the profits from her business to a worthy cause.

Jan, of Fareham, makes tantalising cupcakes of all colours and flavours for weddings, birthdays and other functions as part of her ‘Granny Jan’s Cupcakes’ initiative.

She decided to give away all the money she earns to Macmillan Cancer Support after her neice Louise Cowdery, 36, was diagnosed with cancer in 2009.

Jan, 71, says: ‘I found out that the Macmillan nurses were doing such a fantastic job of looking after her.

‘I’m retired and I thought to myself; “what can I do as a way of saying thank you.”

‘I had just learnt to make cupcakes and my granddaughter Imogen Deacon, 12, encouraged me to set up my own business and call it ‘Granny Jan’s Cupcakes. So it went from there really.’

Jan has so far raised £5,000 since she set up shop from home.

She has also raised money for the worthy cause by taking part in The Great South Run, holding coffee mornings and selling home-made pies, jams and marmalades.

She explains: ‘I love baking and cooking.

‘They are two things I have been doing since an early age.

‘I get great pleasure out of seeing people enjoying the things I make. The business has really taken off.’
