Caring Lara Buck is this week’s worthy We Can Do It T-shirt winner because she will run through the streets of Portsmouth in a bid to help her ill father.

Lara, of Chilcote Road, Copnor, Portsmouth, will join thousands of other fundraisers as they compete in the Bupa Great South Run on Sunday, October 28.

Lara wants to raise as much money as she can for The Pulmonary Fibrosis Trust during the 10-mile run because her father Tony Ryan, 70, suffers from the condition, which causes a build-up of tissue in the lungs.

She also plans to hold an all-day tea and coffee event for friends and family at her house three days after the run – and all the proceeds raised will go towards the charity, which supports people with the condition.

A raffle with prizes will also be held during the event – being billed as the Baffins Bake Off. Lara says: ‘It’s an illness that not many people know about.

‘The only cure would be a lung transplant but my dad is over 60 so that’s not possible.

‘He’s not on any treatment. I did the Great South Run a couple of years ago and it was a really good experience.

‘I got my husband Ben into it so he’s doing it with me for the first time.

‘I’m feeling quite nervous because I’m not as prepared this time around. I’ve been focussing a lot on my fundraising day.’
