Fancy stretching your legs and raising money for a good cause – in fancy dress?
Runners of all abilities can pull on their trainers later this month to take part in the Sport Relief mile in aid of Comic Relief.
And with three different distances to take part in, there’s something for beginners and more experienced runners to enjoy on Sunday March 25.
The Portsmouth mile will take place at the Mountbatten Centre in Hilsea and is being organised by the University of Portsmouth’s Students’ Union.
Union vice-president Stephen Roberts says: ‘We thought it was a really good opportunity for students to get involved. It’s also about volunteering and fundraising. The more people that can get involved, the better.’
More than 400 people have already registered to take part in the Portsmouth event but the organisers are hoping to get the numbers up to around 700.
Portsmouth Football Club will be at the Mountbatten Centre to lend their support and student sports groups will be there manning stalls and doing demos.
Those planning to take part in the one-mile event have been encouraged to wear fancy dress to make it more fun.
‘It’s an opportunity for everyone to get involved,’ adds Stephen. ‘We want to make it a really good day out.’
By getting sponsored to take part, runners can help Comic Relief support people in the UK and some of the world’s poorest countries.
Taking part costs £6 for an adult, £3 for a child and £15 for a family of four.
