Ron Crook is known as a man who loves his tea. So when Angie Berryman made him a drink, she found a way to his heart.
Of course the pair clicked over their cuppa, but the fact that it was such a good brew must have helped.
‘I’ve been making tea for him ever since,’ laughs Angie, before admitting: ‘Well he makes it for me too.’
The couple met when she was working in a shoe shop in North End and he did some electrical work in the building.
They got to know each other during tea breaks and more than 50 years later they are celebrating their golden wedding.
Ron, 71, and Angie, 68, couldn’t afford a proper honeymoon after their wedding at St James’ Church, Milton so they decided to mark their anniversary in style with a cruise of the Baltic, visiting Stockholm, Helsinki, St Petersburg and Tallinn.
They went with friends that they have known for many years and then returned for their anniversary to celebrate with family and friends.
The Purbook couple’s guests at the special lunch at Broad Oak Sports and Social Club in Portsmouth included their son Gary and his wife Sue, daughter Lisa and her husband Jason and five grandchildren Thomas, Abbie, Georgia, Lilli-Jay and Ronnie.
Lilli-Jay, who is 11, did a speech for the couple.
