Marks & Spencer may not have the widest selection of wine, but the past few years have seen a real improvement on its wine

shelves.

Sancerre doesn’t perhaps immediately spring to mind when it comes to Rose, which is a shame, but Les Ruettes Sancerre Rose 2012 (M&S £10.99 on offer from £12.99 until March 2) is a lovely example.

Made from Pinot Noir, this is wonderfully fresh with red berry fruits and a crisp, elegant finish.

Helderberg Winery Cabernet Sauvignon 2012, Stellenbosch (M&S £7.99 on offer from £9.99 until March 2) is produced by one of South Africa’s best winemakers and this is full of ripe cassis with a touch of herb and cedar

wood followed by a ripe and silky finish.

Classic new world-style Cabernet Sauvignon and fantastic value.

Viñalta Malbec 2013, Argentina

Sometimes Malbec can almost be too much of a good thing with just a bit too much oak. But this unoaked version made by a Frenchman, Herve Joxaux Fabre, is really delicious. Dark berries and plums with a juicy, velvety texture and a fresh finish. Try with a Sunday roast lamb.

M&S £7.99 - on offer, buy 2 for £12 until March 2
