Sam Carden first met Hannah Pepperall one dark evening on Southsea seafront when Sam was trying particularly hard to get her attention.

The 32-year-old says: ‘Me and some friends were a little bit of boy racers and we were trying to get these girls to see us.’

As Sam tried desperately to get them to notice him, he ended up standing on the seafront with a large piece of paper with his number scrawled across it.

He says: ‘I was stood there for a while and they kept going round – and Hannah called me back!’

They met at the pub soon after but ending up losing contact. They didn’t speak for 10 years until Hannah added Sam on Facebook – three years later they have just married.

The couple, who live in Horndean, were wed at the Square Tower in Old Portsmouth, with their reception at the Southwick Park Golf Course.

Sam says: ‘We wanted to have our wedding near the seafront because it’s so close to where we first met each other. The Square Tower was so intimate it just seemed perfect.

‘It’s strange to think we wasted all that time when we could have been together. We missed out on all those years in-between. Seeing her walk down the isle towards me was just so overwhelming.’

For Sam and Hannah, 31, it was the perfect day.

He says: ‘It was absolutely amazing. I was just happy when it got to the evening because I was so nervous about my speech because there’s a lot of pressure!’

Sam proposed to Hannah sat on a cliff top in Devon while they were on holiday for her 30th birthday.

‘I didn’t have her dangling off the cliff or anything,’ Sam explains, ‘but I wanted it to be somewhere we could return to and remember the moment.’

They went on to spend their honeymoon in the Maldives for a week with Sam adding: ‘It was so beautiful and just like the pictures. It was just out of this world.’
