Determined Hannah Jones is this week’s We Can Do It T-shirt winner because she finished the Brighton Marathon despite being told to stop by paramedics.
Hannah, 27, injured her foot before the race but was adamant she’d take part in her first long-distance run.
The civil servant from Highfield Avenue, Fareham, was told by paramedics at the 14-mile mark that it could be dangerous for her to carry on.
‘The podiatrist assessed my foot and told me I had slightly ruptured the tendons in my foot and asked if I wanted to carry on,’ says Hannah.
‘I did, so she strapped up my foot and I got back out on the course but I was wavering.
‘It took two further stops and a lot more bandages but I kept going, even when I was medically advised to give up.
‘I had reached the 20th mile and a little voice inside me wanted to just call it a day.
‘The stopwatch on my wrist was telling me I’d been going for almost seven hours.’
Hannah finished the race in nine hours, but is glad that she decided to carry on.
She said: ‘It was a great experience and I am a stronger person for it.
‘I had support from my family, friends and work colleagues but I have to say the final cheers from complete strangers spurring me on was something quite exceptional and I wouldn’t trade that feeling of pride for anything, not even a five-hour finish.’
